Maria Manuela de Sa Pereira Lopes concluded the BA on Singing in 1980 in the class of Isabel Mallaguerra, at the Conservatorio
Nacional do Porto. In the next year, also concludes her BA on Piano, in the class of Teresa Xavier.
Also in 1981 gets the award "Eng. Antonio de Almeida" for being the best Singing finalist.
From 1981 until 1983 teaches at the Conservatorio Calouste Gulbenkian, in Braga.
In 1982 is awarded by S.E.C. with a long term scholarship to study at the Escola Superior de Canto, Madrid, with the
professors Lola Aragon and Ana Higueras.
In 1983 becomes a member of "Grupo de Musica Contemporanea de Lisboa" and participates for 8 years at the "Encontros
de Musica Contemporanea da Fundacao Gulbenkian". She also works with the pianists Teresa Xavier, Rogelio Gavilanes and Fernando
Turina.
In 1985 concludes her studies in Madrid and performs all over Spain, promoting the composer-pianist Jesus Legido.
Since 1985 that Manuela de Sa performs regularly in Portugal - Festival da Figueira da Foz, Festival de Outono and Festival
do Algarve - and abroad in Madrid, Alicante, Toulouse, Turin, Sienna, Brussels, Gand, Louvan-la-Neuve and Luxembourg.
In Portugal she also gave recitals sponsored by ACARTE, Museu das Janelas Verdes, Museu Gulbenkian, Teatro S. Luis, Teatro
S. Carlos, S.E.C, Comissao para as Comemoracoes dos Descobrimentos, Fundacao de Serralves. She has also recorded for R.T.P
and R.D.P.
In 1987 becomes a teacher at the Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa.
In 1991 records the CD "In-Curso" from Miguel Graca Moura, with the collaboration of the flutist Denise Ribera.
Her previous studies in Madrid are recognized in Portugal as a BA in Music by Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Since 1995 that she investigates the human voice together with the voice therapist Clara Liz Cruz and Dr. Ezequiel Barros.
In 1997 records a CD, with Portucale Ensemble, giving a special emphasis on Portuguese music. Also tours in Macao with
the same group.
In 1999 tours in the USA performing in Sacramento, Davis and Berkeley. Also does chamber music recitals in Sweden. Becomes
a qualified teacher trainer by Ministerio da Educacao, Portugal.
In 1999 also becomes a member of The Voice Foundation, Philadelphia. Starts new investigations of the anatomy and physiology
of singing, together with the voice therapist Mafalda Caeiro, allowing singers of all musical styles to recover from damaged
voices.
Lately has been regularly giving lyric singing recitals in Spain, mostly song cycles from the Spanish composer Jesus
Legido. The teaching expertise of Manuela de Sa has been internationally acclaimed on singing masterclasses given by Graham
Johnson, Loh Tuan (Opera-Plus), Mara Zampieri, Susan McCulloh and Marimi del Pozo, where her students excelled.
